Food is a large part of our daily life, and is also becoming a large part of my blog.  But this time it is all about channeling my Italian roots and cooking my favorite sauce.  Many people have started to cook pastas and use tomato paste.  Tomato paste will be far away from this recipe.  I wanted to preference this with that information because of my distain for that way of going about it.  It is like cheating.  You put tomato paste into the pan and then dump cream into it.  No wonder it tastes good, cuz its all fat and cream.  So people will make this thinking that they are a good chef only to realize that they are going to wake up the next day 5 pounds heavier.  Not to mention when you put a lot of cream in a dish it wrecks havoc on your digestive track, but I'll leave it at that. Now if you want to make a truly good sauce you need good ingredients.  A pasta sauce is determined by the ingredients.  Most important of these are the ...

Book 1 Post 2

American Like Me , edited by America Ferrera The book was not what I expected.  When I first read the book summary I thought it would be a more upbeat and happy book, but as I started it I started to realize the insecurities and worries that all people have. This wasn't a glorified version, but a raw and honest depiction.   I liked the way the book started.  It talked about names.  Names are something that I have a lot of understanding with realizing that my last name is unique.  I never really knew about this until high school where it became prevalent.  Especially going to an all boys school.  I really felt for both America and Reshma but for different ways.  I empathized with America as when my name is called people are usually fascinated with it, think its funny, and smirk.  As for reshma I empathized with the fact that often I will not say my last name when it is not needed.  It is often easier to not have to d...

How to Cook a Perfect Steak A step-by-step guide on perfecting steak Food is so funny, everyone knows what tastes good yet not everybody knows how to make it taste good.  There is also nothing more primal than steak.  Yet this seems to be the most hotly contested cooking item.  Cooking a steak is easy, but doing it well brings you down a rabbit hole of understanding chemical reactions and deep food science.  My first memory of steak was…abysmal.  I hated steak.  I thought it was too tough and didn't have enough flavor.  I would rather have a hamburger.  After hundreds of steaks, countless food classes, and hundreds of hours of online instruction I have finally changed that opinion. Now I can clearly outline it for you to impress your next date, and save yourself hundreds of hours.  Picking the perfect steak: It all starts at the grocery store.  Regardless of what cut you want, the most important factor is amble marbling. As Gordon Ramse...

Book 1 Post 1

Autobiographies are like getting a glimpse into some ones world.  Seeing a different perspective and way of looking at things provides me with a more well rounded frame of perspective.  I always walk away from hearing others stories with a fresh way at looking at others and also more empathy.  Seeing others struggles allows me to understand that that each person has their own battles and makes me more receptive of that.  This is why I chose the book by America Ferrara.  So many different stories that I will be exposed to that will give me new insight into cultures, peoples lives, and their values.  Hearing from 30+ people will unlock new ways of thinking that I can use when working with other people and be able to relate to others that much better. Recently I have become increasingly interested in culture and my culture as well. I have been watching movies about my Italian culture and listening to stories about it as well.  I believe that this phase th...
